Yesterday, while we were discussing ways to support the DREAMers, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled, Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements.

The news focused on the part of the Executive Order that called for the “immediate construction of a physical wall on the southern border” of the US.

The E.O. warns that “among those who illegally enter are those who seek to harm Americans through acts of terror or criminal conduct.” Yet a study found that from 1980 to 2004, just 221 border crossings involved individuals indicted by the US government in terrorism cases. Moreover, “the most frequent origin for these crossing efforts was Canada.” (U.S. Customs and Border patrol Confirmed in 2011 that they apprehend more terrorist suspects at our northern border.)

In any event, the E.O. covers a number of other issues as well, including: a promise to “detain individuals apprehended on suspicion of violating Federal or State law, including Federal immigration law”; a pledge to expedite deportation proceedings; and a commitment to building lots of new facilities “to detain aliens at or near the land border with Mexico.”

In addition, several other “draft” executive orders were circulating the internet yesterday. One threatens to Shut down America’s refugee program for at least four months, and permanently ban applicants from certain countries.

Another DRAFT ORDER TARGETS THE DREAMERS. This order would end amnesty for these young men and women who were brought to the United States as children.

Today’s action: Go to petitions.whitehouse.gov and SIGN the “Full Amnesty for Dreamers” petition. If this petition gets 100,000 signatures within 30 days of its creation, the White House will review it and respond. Then, SEND this to your friends and ask them to sign!
